  • Muskrats

Muskrats, also called water rats, are small animals that average 18 to 24 inches in length and can be found in almost every state in the United States. They can be a nuisance by digging up yards and leaving an offensive odor as they mark their territories during mating season. They thrive near ponds, rivers, streams, and lakes and can eat up and destroy a garden fairly quickly. Protect your home and yard from these pesky rodents using one of our professional, safe muskrat traps.

  • How to Trap a Muskrat:

    1. Contact your state wildlife agency to check local laws about trapping before purchasing a trap.

    2. Purchase one of our professional traps.

    3. Locate the muskrat's home. Look for their footprints, droppings, and half-eaten plant stems.

    4. Place the trap in three to four inches of water near the muskrat's home or in areas where a lot of activity is apparent. You can also insert the trap into their homes by cutting an area out of the brush.

    5. Put muskrat bait inside the trap. You can buy special liquid muskrat bait and dab it at the entrance of the trap or use apples or carrots.

    6. Check your traps every few hours.

    7. Dispose of the animal by killing it as humanely as possible or by relocating it to another area.
